Hiking Backpack Kits

In partnership with CA State Parks and California State Library, the Moorpark City Library now offers hiking kits for checkout. These backpack kits are intended to make outdoor experiences accessible to everyone by providing books, equipment, and safety information to beginner-level explorers. Stargazing Kits will be coming soon!

How do I check out a Hiking Kit?

  • Kits are intended for 18 years of age or older.
  • Hiking kits are checked out for two weeks and may be renewed up to 1 time if there are no holds.
  • Hiking Kits may be placed on hold by visiting the Moorpark City Library or calling 805-517-6370.
  • Check out a Hiking Backpack Kit at the Moorpark City Library. Please check the catalog or call the Library at 805-517-6370 to see if one Is available and/or to place one on hold. 

How do I return a Hiking Kit?

  • Borrowers must return Hiking Kits in person during open hours to the Moorpark City Library.
  • Hiking Kits may not be returned in any book drop. Doing so may result in the borrower incurring fees for any damages.
  • The borrower is responsible for any lost or damaged equipment.
