Letter from the City Manager - March 13

An Open Letter from the City Manager Regarding Coronavirus

March 13, 2020

City Manager Troy BrownDear Resident:

The COVID-19 (Coronavirus) is a global pandemic that is spreading across the globe.  Medical officials on the global, national, state, and local scales have been working to communicate and share information in an effort to slow the proliferation of this virus.

We have all been witnessing the impact of social distancing measures being implemented.  Large scale events are being cancelled, sporting events are being postponed, schools and colleges are closing their doors, and we are all being urged to practice good hygiene through hand washing, social distancing, and taking care of ourselves.

On March 12, Governor Gavin Newson signed an Executive Order providing state and local governments with enhancements to address COVID-19.  The County of Ventura has also declared an emergency, enhancing the County’s ability to procure tools and resources that enhance its efforts to combat the virus.  Today, I have also issued an Emergency Declaration for the City of Moorpark, which will be ratified by the City Council on Wednesday, March 18.

The issuance of this a declaration temporarily relaxes the City’s purchasing requirements to allow us to acquire goods and services at a moment’s notice, enhancing our ability to protect the public’s safety.  Adoption of the emergency declaration is also required for cost reimbursement from national or state agencies for expenses we may incur for any activities we undertake to combat COVID-19.

The City has taken a number of steps to implement social distancing.  Many of these measures impact programs and services that residents have come to enjoy and we apologize for any inconveniences during this time.  Public safety is the City’s highest priority, and we are working hard to keep the public safe and informed.

As in the past, we will meet these challenges together.  Be sure to take care of yourself, which in turn helps your friends and your neighbors.  The City has set up an information portal for Moorpark-specific information at www.moorparkca.gov/coronavirus, which will contain the latest up to date information on City facilities and services.  If you have any questions, we are always here to help.  Feel free to reach out to the City at 805-517-6200.

Sincerely,

Troy Brown
City Manager
